Our Hop Pricing and Availability Index is meant to serve as a consumer service to inform home brewers and other purchasers of hops on the relative cost and retail availability of popular hop varieties.

The best way to use our Hop Index is to check the most recent version (we publish a new Hop Index every week) whenever you are preparing to purchase hops for home brewing.  By comparing the retail cost of particular hops varieties at your local home brew supply store or your favorite online home brew supply website you can determine the cost effectiveness of your hop source.

For example, if your favorite home brew supply store is selling a particular hop variety for less than the average price per ounce on our Hop Index, then that represents a good value.  If they are selling a variety for more than the rates listed on the Hop Index, then you could probably benefit from shopping around additional sources.
